what a great result for the guys, Scott Green, Monique Avery, Patrick Avery and Nigel McDowell all won their grade in the series. An excellent effort and hinting that things are going well for the Nationals.

pre xmas wrap
so what been going on....
the PM scholarship has been winding up and the university stress will soon be behind me. Pleasing to finish this grad diploma with an average of "Pass with Distinction" including one course, training elite athletes with "High Distinction", the highest grade awarded. I also had a nomination for Bay of Plenty Coach of the Year, but was beating out by the NZ sevens Rugby coach.....next year!!! But Monique won the Junior Sports Women award, wicked
I have also been approached by one of the most promising Juniors (now U23) and are happy to be guiding the training of Tom David who will be riding for the Davo-lotto continental team in Belgium next year. Other great news is the progress of Wade Mangham, who was looking to have a domestic season next year when out of the blue a club in France has invited him to their team next year. There approach was based initialy on Wades worlds results and when they looked deeper they like the results that he had gained here in NZ. He even gets to take a mate over with him to make the NZ-France transition a litle easier.
Clinton is joining a new Amateur team in Belgium "PWS" and will be on a cervelo next year. This should be a good move for Clinton as he will be having another go at winning Paris Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, if they come off He will have the Pro tour knocking on his door for sure.
Logan is in the process of signing with a pro squad in belgium that features an absolute legend in Belgie cycling. More news when its official. Ryan Wills is heading back to Bodysol - Euro Millions Pôle Continental Wallon.
So with 5 riders racing in Europe this year I might just have to take a holiday and go and see them all racing.
Back home the Waiariki squad is getting all the pre build up stuff out of the way with muscle screans, testing etc. soon to be into the National cup races......
so more to come

long time coming
well Its been a while, more involved with coaching than blogging. firstly some highlights
Clinton and Logan winning in Europe. And another World Champion with Thomas winning the U25 24hour MTB title in canada.
I have just returned from South Africa where I had the role of National Junior Road Coach. The highlight of that trip was the good results of Tom David who backed up last years results with another top 10 in TT and a strong showing in the road race. The other riders raced strongly and only faded late in the race. For all of them it was the biggest race that they have done.
Thats about it really, just getting back into preparing the Waiariki MTB squad and helping the roadies gain those big results that make people turn heads.

more news if i can remember it
Things have been cruising along with riders all over the show doing well.
Starting with the Uni games, Monique won both the road and the MTB XC titles.
Ash Hough has been selected for the MTB worlds and won the NZ Secondary Schools championships with wins in both the XC and the hill climb.
Over in Europe Logan has just finished 10th in the Tour de Bretagne. Clinton has been playing in Italy at the tour delle regioni. But due to a bit of time lost and the really bad weather conditions he pull out of the race, there are more important and better suited races just round the corner in belguim. Ryan has finally started a race and finished 12th and more important has his SRM working. And Josh Brown has also joined the coaching team and I will be helping him make some results on the roads of belgium. I really need to win lotto and move over there and run a team of Kiwis.
we also just had the Tineli junior tour in rotorua and the TA selection tour in Te Awamutu
This was an goal event of Wades and he road strong races with a stage win in TA.
Now I have my selector hat on with the other two CNZ selectors to get teams for the worlds, Canada and Australia.
and the Prime Ministers Scholarship continues to take a big hunk of my time. Im going to be happy to finish this course this year.

winning continues
Monique just back from a quick form finder at Xterra Australia, and she bought home the age group title and has qualified for Hawaii. This weekend we hope she adds the NZ title to the list.
She really is changing as an athlete quickly and there is a whole lot more to come.
Nina Pederson is also lining up in the pro event and hoping to head to the podium in a very competitive field. (Just quietly my pick will be Sonia Foote and Gen Mathews to fight it out)
Clinton is heading into one of the major goals of the season this weekend, the U23 Tour of Flanders. Last year he rode an impressive 5th place and we would like to see that bettered.
Logan is also hitting the tour of Gaverstreak and should be a good form indicator.
others are off at the NZ secondary schools MTB champs so good luck to them also.

March gone and april already
well time is moving quickly again. Monique has become a Continental Champion winning the Oceania U23 title at Nelson. Clinton has been racing in South Africa and going quite well, Logan has started to show some form coming. April is going to be a good month too . Mon and Nina will be hitting the Xterra in Rotorua. And Mon is going to hit one is Aus for a hit out as well. Some big races in NZ for the juniors with The Tineli Tour, which I fully involved with. Followed by the TA tour. These are very important selection races for the worlds and a tour to canada.
The Waiariki MTB squad has been kicking along getting annual plans out of the way . And the PM scholarship work has ramped up again with course work and essays. So just another easy month coaching realy

MTB is back on the plan
well a new initiative has seen me return to coaching XC Mountain bike. The local polytech has started a scholarship scheme based around MTB racing and have asked me to lead the coaching of the team. So tomorrow we launch the Wiarariki MTB squad. This squad will have elite and non elite riders with the hope of getting the best performance and a degree out of them. It should be fun.

top results that
great weekend at the National champs, I almost didnt take the 3 hour drive there are back on the friday just to watch the Clinton and Logan in the time trial, but Im glad I did as they both won!! wicked, 2 national champions in just on an hour. It was a happy home. The road races didnt go as well but were solid in the hot conditions, Clinton will never wonder what if? in a road race, I wish he would some times but he is learning to be patient as the races get longer and faster. Logan had a great race to finish 5th in a whos who of NZ racing, including protour riders.
